I BELIEVE WE NOW RESIDE IN THE GREATEST AGE IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY: THE WISDOM AGE
How did we get here? Well, the hunter killed the animal that fed the farmer … the farmer grew the crops that fed the industrialist … The industrialist made the supplies to enable the technologist … and the technologist has given us access to all the information we could want.
We have a new level of access to information about one another, as we use the Web to merge into global communities based on shared beliefs … communities that transcend governments and physical boundaries.
We have the power to free ourselves from the thought control of everything from insular governmental regimes to television commercials. We can use the knowledge of the global community to veer around the messages that are prescribed for us.
We have been given tools that enable us to rethink how we spend our days. Mobile and wireless devices give us the choice to work anytime and anywhere, causing us to realize that work is not a “place,” but rather a “role.” One role among many!
Now the question is, what will we do with all of this? What will we use this gift of information to accomplish for the next generation, as the hunter fed the farmer thousands of years ago? That is the central question of the Wisdom Age.
I believe the answer begins inside each one of us. It’s about discovering who we are and acting like we matter. The time is now for us to let go of the distractions outside of ourselves and all the information that leaves us feeling scattered and overwhelmed and to focus on realizing what matters most to us. As we elevate our minds, we gain clarity to focus on not just the urgent things, but the important things. Not only will we expand and grow in our own lives, but we can make an impact in the world and make it a better place to be.
I began on my own journey over 20 years ago. I had achieved the wealth and personal success I had always hoped for and I had a really good life … but I was not truly fulfilled. I began to absorb all the business and spiritual wisdom I could get my hands on. Eventually, I found that I had pulled together a process and a set of tools that helped me to disentangle from old habits and stale mindsets. It was hard work, but it changed my life … as well as the lives of my wife and children and the soul of my business. It expanded my impact more than I knew!
I did all of this for myself, but the wisdom affected me so deeply, people began to tell me, “Bob, I want to start taking whatever it is you’re on.” So I began sharing the tools and ideas I had discovered. The response was amazing and showed me that sharing can lead to significant change for myself and for others.
With the help of the many people who have embraced them and helped refine them, my process and tools grew into what I now call iMatter – authentic thought leadership for The Wisdom Age.
Going forward I hope to share my thoughts and the ideas behind iMatter with you. More importantly, I hope these posts inspire you to share your thoughts and ideas with me and the iMatter Community. There is more to do, more to know, more to become…
