What is This New Life?
I take people to The Mountain on retreats and take visionaries out there for connection, clarity, and conviction. It is an amazing experience and often when we come back to ‘real’ life it can be a shock. We talk about what can help anchor in this experience. On the last retreat, the participants and I talked about “this new life”. We are not going back to something else...it's this new life...right now. I have found this to be a new mantra or thought process for evolving.
So, what is this new life?
Acknowledgment
Acceptance
Intention
When I say acknowledgment, we’re acknowledging that we’re not going back to the old life, whatever that may be. We are acknowledging that things have changed.
I was listening to a sports talk radio show the other day and they were talking about “the bat flip” when someone hits a home run. Some people might say “oh well, that's not the way the game is meant to be”, and I happen to agree with that. Yet, it's evolving, it's “this new life” and things are changing. We don't want to taunt necessarily but celebrating might be ok. To acknowledge that today is not the same as yesterday. To accept that we are not going back and my kids are growing up and leaving the house. My business is changing, the environment is changing, technology is changing, and we have to learn to accept that.
The third thing is intention. What is my intention for this new life and for today? When I get home from a retreat or even wake up on a Monday morning, my intention is to choose happiness. I can't always fake happiness, but my intention is to choose happiness. In this new life, my intention is to choose happiness.
Why do we have this new life? For sanity. It's a new framework and to catapult us.
Sanity is wondering how we are ever going to get back and that drives me crazy in my head and in my heart. I need to have the sanity to know that tomorrow is going to be different. My kids are growing up, my business is evolving, and things are changing. It's a new world and this new life helps me with confidence.
The framework is a context and a perspective. Therefore, really putting a new framework on not only how I can survive in this new life but thrive in it as well.
The third reason is to catapult. What is something that I can do today to catapult me and change the trajectory of the rest of my life?
Every day is a new day, and it is so precious. I hear a lot of things that say “enjoy the moment” and most of the time I get it. Today is an opportunity to catapult me into a new life.
How do I create this new life?
Imagine
Improve
Impact
I need to imagine this great future. I'm envisioning this future for my business, my relationship with my wife, for me as a person and I can get excited about that. My conscious and subconscious are helping to figure that out. Connections come to me out of nowhere, a lot of “who’s not how’s” (thank you Dan Sullivan).
To improve is learning from the past. As far as imaging I am not worried about the future, I am excited. When I am improving, I am getting rid of the dread and regrets. To think about improving is to look back and think about what I could have done differently and knowing what I know now and using that today to flip it.
The third thing is to impact this moment right now. If I’m looking forward and getting excited, looking back and learning, I am much more present. I am choosing happiness. Today is a new day. This is a new life. I'm excited about this new life. I am excited about your new life. It is a great time to be alive. Thanks for listening.
