I want to share a little bit about one of the things here at iMatter that we call our Lifetime Expanders.
One of them is "Live Your Legacy Now".
So as opposed to saying "once I have the money" or "once I have the success" or "when x,y,z happens..." THEN I'll spread my wings and show up and really make a difference in this world. You instead dive into living your legacy now.
And to be honest, I used to live that way.
But a year ago this weekend, I had a stroke. I never thought that I thought I was dying, and to be lying in that ambulance going to the hospital and saying "This is it", all I could think about what how I still had so much that I wanted to do.
Fortunately, within a couple of days, I recovered for the most part and within a month I was all the way back to myself. But that moment made me make a decision that life is too short and I was lucky enough to get a second chance to truly live my legacy. I kept asking myself:
"Bob, what are you here to teach the people?"
For me personally, it was to finish my book, get the training out there, and build this life and this company the way that I had always dreamed of. I kept waiting on other things to fall in place or happen instead of grabbing the bull by the horns and going all in.
A key thing around that decision to focus on living my legacy now was the will to live. It's not a fight, I don't think I fought for my life, but I had the will to live a wonderful life.
Don't wait for a heart attack.
Don't wait for a stroke.
Don't wait for a divorce.
Don't wait for anything.
Choose to live your legacy now.
So ask yourself, why are you here?
As for me, it's been a year. An AMAZING year full of a lot of work, but lots of fun and I'm living.. with my wife, with my kids, with my legacy.
I think of the biggest successes I've had is my daughter sending me pictures from the sunsets on a retreat that she's on and she wakes up early in appreciating the sun. Then watching my son take pictures of the sunset and sending them to his girlfriend. See them really slow down and appreciate things. We've all slowed down a little bit and really asked ourselves what we want to be remembered as.
If you had that extra year or that extra day what would you do? I know what I would do.
Enjoy the sunset, teach what I need to learn, live my life, and not wait.
